Class/Style Descriptions
Youth Programs
Recreational programming for students ages 2-7
This is a 45-minute class for boys and girls ages 2 – 3 years old who love to twirl and jump at home. This Creative Movement based class focuses on basic ballet movements to fine-tune gross motor skills and build a passion for dance at a young age. This class uses the integration of music, props, and seasonal themes to keep students engaged all year long. Moms are encouraged to come dance, too, or watch the kids shine alone! This class does participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 2-3
Ballet/Tap & Ballet/Jazz
These hour long classes are an introduction to the different styles of dance for students ages 3-4. While still utilizing props, music and games, these classes add additional technical elements to broaden student’s dance knowledge and get them set up for a successful dance career. Each class session students will work on both style offerings and should come prepared with the necessary shoes/attire for both styles.These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 3-4
Ballet Tap & Ballet/Jazz
This hour long class teaches the basics of acrobatic dance and floor tumbling for students ages 5-7. With state-of-the-art tumbling equipment, dancers are safely trained in flexibility, tumbling, and contortion skills. This class DOES NOT participate in our end-of-year recital.
Ages 5-7
This 45-minute class is an introduction to hip hop dance for students ages 5-7. This class teaches basic hip hop foundations and vocabulary in a fun, upbeat setting. This class does participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 5-7
This hour long class teaches the basics of acrobatic dance and floor tumbling for students ages 5-7. With state-of-the-art tumbling equipment, dancers are safely trained in flexibility, tumbling, and contortion skills. This class DOES NOT participate in our end-of-year recital.
Ages 5-7
Recreational Programs
These 45-minute classes are for students who are focused on the intensity and precision of jazz technique. These classes consist of an energizing warm up with flexibility training, center floor work, across-the-floor combinations, and sharp choreography. As the students progress to higher level classes, the curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
These 45-minute classes are for students who are interested in exploring the precision of tap technique. Students will learn all the basic tap moves and expand on their progressions as they move to higher level classes. Classes will consist of warm up exercises, center floor work, across the floor combinations and intricate choreography. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
Our Ballet classes are 1.5 hours long for for students who are driven to master classical Vaganova ballet technique. Classes are structured with barre exercises, center floor work, across-the-floor combinations, flexibility & explanation of ballet terminology. As the students progress to higher level classes, the curriculum becomes increasingly more complex. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
These 45-minute classes are for the students who are the life of the party! This class is perfect for any lively, cheerful and eager-to-learn student who is looking for a safe and inviting atmosphere to let their energy out. These classes focus on the fundamentals of footwork, body rolls, dynamics, and much more. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
These 45-minute classes are for students who are looking to express themselves through modern-contemporary dance. These classes explore the connection between emotion and movement. With elements of lyrical dance as well as floor work, partnering and various methods of improvisation, students explore a free sense of movement and stylization. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
In this 45-minute class, students will learn the foundations of Clogging. Originating as a type of folk dance practiced in the United States, clogging uses percussive footware (similar to a tap shoe) to create audible rhythms, usually to the downbeat with the heel keeping the rhythm. This class does participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
These hour long classes are for students who are interested in focusing on the specific skills of jumps and turns which are incorporated into most styles of dance. The 1/2 level class will focus on the foundations and basics, while the 3/4 level class will work on more advanced skills. Running these classes at the same time allows instructors to assign students to the class they think is best depending on the skill focus each week. These classes DO NO participate in the end of the year recital.

These classes are 45-60 minutes long and consist of a balance between the necessary strength and flexibility work dancers need to perform SAFELY, as injury prevention is one of HCDC’s top priorities. By taking this class one to two times a week, dancers will excel in other classes and areas such as movement quality, style specific skills and tricks (leaps, turns, acro, etc.), endurance/stamina, and prolong their dance careers. These classes DO NOT participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
This is a 45-minute class for students who were born to see their name in lights. This class focuses on proper technique and explores the many dance styles used in Broadway shows. While learning about the Broadway shows themselves, students will focus on performance skills such as connecting with the audience, telling a story through movement, and facial expressions as well as various acting techniques. These classes do participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
This 45-minute class educates dancers on everything they need to know to be a successful, well-rounded dancer in and out of the studio. Students will learn the basics of dance history, anatomy for dancers, audition preparation work, healthy nutrition habits and more! This class DOES NOT participate in our end of year recital.
Ages 8+
This 45-minute class focuses on the foundational skills of dance improvisation and the beginning elements to dance composition. In this class, students will be introduced to the choreography process as well as honing their improvisation skills. Students will have the opportunity to choreograph their own recital routine as a group with the assistance and guidance of the instructor. This class does participate in the end of year recital.
Ages 8+
These 1 hour long classes are focused on blending the art of acrobatics and floor tumbling with dance. With state-of-the-art tumbling equipment, dancers are safely trained in flexibility, tumbling, and contortion skills. Students will learn the proper technique for skills such as cartwheels, backbends, handstands, walkover variations, aerials, handsprings and much more. This class DOES NOT participate in our end-of-year recital.
Ages 8+
Yoga offers the stretching and flexibility benefits you need as a dancer in a unique way. Yoga challenges different muscle groups and introduces a new range of motion throughout the body. You’ll learn to stretch safely while warming the body, engaging the muscles, and then stretching deeply. This class DOES NOT participate in our end-of-year recital.
Ages 8+
The intention of this class is to provide a dance experience to dancers who have disabilities or developmental delays. We strive to provide a comfortable and fun environment for students to learn and grow at their own pace. This class incorporates the basics of hip hop, jazz and ballet movement in a modified setting, making dance accessible to all.
